Bisti Wilderness

    Rainbow Hill

An uniquely clear and serene morning at the Bisti Wilderness is documented from on top of a striated hill while facing due south and taken with a wide, 14mm, lens to capture both the pre-dawn aura to the east and the earth's shadow to the west. NOTE: The below the horizon portion of this photo was lightened by one stop to better document the scene as witnessed this serenely clear morning. Additionally contrast was increased.

  • Eroded Convergance

    Eroded Convergance

This photo was taken on a crystal clear morning in the Bisti Wilderness from a vantage point just abouve a set of uniquely and uniformly eroded lines of rock and sand. I wanted to create a set of intersecting lines that culmniated on the distant horizon. Those lines not only include the eroded rock, but the sun's aura and the earth shadow. All these lines create a uniquely gorgeous convergance on the horizon. NOTE: The exposure of the below the horizon portion of the photograph was lightened by one stop to better account for the scene as witnessed this particular winter morning.

  • Hoodoo Dawn

    Hoodoo Dawn

The elevated vantage point of this exposure created a perspective that allowed the camera to view the distant horizon while also documenting the hoodoo garden below. I again enjoy the convergange created by the lines above and below the horizon as they come together in the upper middle third of this photograph. NOTE: The above the horizon portion of this photograph was darkened by one stop to more acurately reflect the dawn colors as they existed that morning.

    Hoodoo Window

I really enjoyed the lines of the hoodoo formation in the foreground. The upper linear symetry combined with the curvy eroded base appealed to me. When I spotted a hoodoo above the horizon in the distance through the break in the foreground I knew I had a shot I would be happy with. I had to be quick as the dawn horizon was fading fast, but I managed to still snare some great color on the horizon as it was a particularly clear dawn. NOTE: No major developing was performed on this photography in post, constrast was adjusted.

  • Cracked Eggs

    Cracked Eggs

This long exposure photograph was taken on the southern side of the Bisti Wilderness. These "cracked egg" formations sit only about 2-3 feet off the ground and make for an interesting yet challenging subject. The erosion patterns appear to be linear, yet eratic, all at the same time; thus part of the appeal. NOTE: No major editing was performed on this photo in post.
