The sandstone bluffs formation at El Malpais National Monument is particularly stunning at sunset. In the evenings the sun sets across the lava field below and casts particularly golden hues on the rocks above the field. A viewer can notice Mt Taylor, one of the three sacred peaks, in the distance and it's shadow creeping up the horizon. NOTE: No major edits were performed with this exposure.
An uniquely clear and serene morning at the Bisti Wilderness is documented from on top of a striated hill while facing due south and taken with a wide, 14mm, lens to capture both the pre-dawn aura to the east and the earth's shadow to the west. NOTE: The below the horizon portion of this photo was lightened by one stop to better document the scene as witnessed this serenely clear morning. Additionally contrast was increased.
This photo was taken on a crystal clear morning in the Bisti Wilderness from a vantage point just abouve a set of uniquely and uniformly eroded lines of rock and sand. I wanted to create a set of intersecting lines that culmniated on the distant horizon. Those lines not only include the eroded rock, but the sun's aura and the earth shadow. All these lines create a uniquely gorgeous convergance on the horizon. NOTE: The exposure of the below the horizon portion of the photograph was lightened by one stop to better account for the scene as witnessed this particular winter morning.
