Chimney Rock Rainbow
Evening light falls over Chimeny Rock at Ghost Ranch, Abiqui Lake, as a vertical rainbow formed just west of Black Mesa. NOTE: A minus one stop GND filter was applied to the sky above the horizon to achieve the observed light balance between the above and below the horizon light levels.
Last Light (Ghost Ranch)
This photograph was taken just short of the Chimney Rock overlook at Ghost Ranch, NM as the shadow of the earth creeps up the eastern horizon. The last light of dusk created dramatic red and pink hues in the sky just before all light faded into the night. NOTE: A one stop GND filter was used to darken the sky and replicate the observed tones above and below the horizon.
Cholla Blume
The sun sets over a Cholla Blume at Ellena Gallegos Park in the Sandia foothills near Albuquerque. The Cholla like to blume in the late June / early July timeframe in pockets. NOTE: I utilized a 2 stop soft GND filter to darken the above the horizon portion of the photo and bring the dynamic range in line with how the scene looked that evening.
Blastoff at Shiprock
A long exposure, 5 minute, photograph of Shiprock taken at astronomical dawn as a set of whispy clouds flow over the formation. The light source for this photograph was the light of the full moon. Note: A one stop GND filter was applied to the below the horizon portion of this photograph to achieve the desired light balance above and below the horizon.
Shiprock Storm
A thunderstorm approaching Shiprock from the southwest. This photo was taken from near the paved road that is just south of Shiprock. (Looking at Shiprock from the Southeast). NOTE: I used a polarizing filter with full affect rotated toward the clouds and a 1 stop soft GND filter to darken the above the horizon portion of the scene.
