Petrified Hoodoo
When I saw this piece of petrified wood I knew I wanted to capture the unique natural beauty of the scene, but was conflicted with two elements. First I wanted to capture the color and variation of the top and core of the stone, but I also wanted to portray the fact that it was sitting on a five foot pedestal of hardened dirt. I do also like the "lumber" on the ground next to the hoodoo in the foreground. It would appear that one could simply pick those chunks up and burn them, but in reality they way somewhere in the neighborhood of 50+ lbs each. NOTE: No major changes were made to this photograph in post.
