  • Gypsum Shadows

    Gypsum Shadows

First light hits the gypsum dunes creating a yellowish glow and shadows that steadily recede until only white is left. NOTE: A one stop soft GND filter was used to recover some of the overexposure of the above the horizon portion of this photograph and more acurately represent the scene as seen by the eye that morning.

  • Cruces Glow

    Cruces Glow

The waning moon lit the gypsum dunes during this 30 second exposure. The light of evening a half to quarter moon on a clear night was enough to want to walk without a headlamp. A surreal experience. NOTE: No major edits were made to this photograph.

  • Las Cruces Nightlight

    Las Cruces Nightlight

The waning moon lit the gypsum dunes during this 30 second exposure. The light of evening a half to quarter moon on a clear night was enough to want to walk without a headlamp. The city lights of Las Cruces create a yellow glow on the horizon. NOTE: No major edits were made to this photograph.

  • White Sands Sunrise

    White Sands Sunrise

The sun peaked through below the distant clouds before dissapearing again. First light on the gypsum crystals creates glimmers that make it appear as if diamonds were hidden in the 30-40 ft mounds of gypsum powder. NOTE: No major edits were made to this photo in post, contrast was adjusted.

  • Lottery Lines

    Lottery Lines

The New Mexico Lottery chose this photograph to grace the front of their "I Love New Mexico" lottery tickets. It was one of 5 winning photography among 9,000+ entries. The whispy clouds created an amazing scene on this particular morning. NOTE: A one half stop hard GND filter was used to burn the sky and more acurately recreate the scene of that morning.

  • Serenity Dawn

    Serenity Dawn

This six second wide angle exposure was taken prior to sunrise, during astronomical dawn, a couple of miles in to the heart of the dunes at White Sands National Monument. The early morning aura of the sun can be seen off to the east. NOTE: A half stop soft GND filter was used to lighten the below the horizon portion of the photograph as optimum exposure was set for the sky. Contrast was also adjusted slightly.

  • Curves

    Curves

The forever changing curves and lines of the White Sands National Monument's dunes are breathtaking. I partiuclarly enjoy the contrasting curves between the top of the dune and the rutted bottom of the dune bed. NOTE: A one half stop soft GND filter was used to darken the above the horizon portion of the photograph.

  • Las Cruces Daylight

    Las Cruces Daylight

A companion photo to my piece titled "Las Cruces Nightlight" this photograph shows what the early morning light looks like as apposed to the nightlights of Las Cruces. NOTE: No major edits were made to this photograph, contrast was adjusted.
